Raise your cardio fitness with intervals and active recovery inside The Conditioning Lab. This class entails a blend of science-based workouts, compassionate coaching, and an uplifting atmosphere. You can part ways with tedious 45-minute runs and say hello to workouts that burn more calories per minute, are built to your unique fitness level, and are adjusted to align with your skill level by an expert coach. The variety in the workouts will leave you surprised at how quickly the 45 minutes go by, yet you’ll be relieved that it’s not longer.

Whether your goal is to lose your first 10 pounds, lose those stubborn last 5 pounds, or just love to push yourself in a stimulating group atmosphere, The Conditioning Lab will make reaching your goal fun. With a limit of 12 people to a class, beginner’s, returning exercisers, and advanced fitness enthusiasts can all rest assured that they’ll get the attention they need to be challenged.

Hi there!

I’m Chris McAbee, Co-owner of Wilmington Performance Lab.  

Let me ask you something - when you do cardio, does 5 minutes seem like an hour?  

Do you have trouble being consistent with your cardio workouts because you find them boring?  

But yet you feel that adding in a few sweat sessions to your week will help you feel good while losing those 2 or 3 inches around the areas you want to tone up?  

The truth is that we are not big fans of monotonous cardio -- at least not when we have big time constraints in our lives. Plus, we found that going for a run on our own doesn't motivate us to work hard like training alongside like-minded people in an uplifting atmosphere.  

To add to that, most people hate steady-state cardio too. It can be monotonous, time-consuming, and, even if you do commit to it, your weight-loss progress eventually comes to a halt thanks to our body’s ability to adapt.  

So to take the boredom and ineffectiveness out of steady-state cardio, we created The Conditioning Lab.  

It’s been over 8 MONTHS in the making.  

We’ve gone through the workouts to make sure they’re fun - we had to make A LOT of revisions, but know that we nailed it!  

We partnered with a software company to make sure your rest breaks are customized to your fitness level. The fitter you are, the faster your heart rate goes down, which means your rest break gets shorter and vice-versa.  

We learned how to use this same software to help you get in the optimal calorie burning zone. Don’t worry about getting overworked. The optimal zone is different at every stage of the workout and this zone is customized to your current fitness level.  

And we created challenges to keep you looking forward to your next session while monitoring your long-term performance.  

The only person you will be competing against is yourself.

Still unsure about what to expect? 

Think of it as a 45-minute group conditioning workout.  

Put another way, it’s the smarter alternative to a long 4-mile run because it saves you time, improves your athletic abilities, and helps burn just as many calories.  

It’s a workout that is a blend of cardio intervals with body weight exercises (think: a 1-minute run on the treadmill followed by mountain climbers) that helps you burn more calories than steady-state cardio per minute. 

It's a workout that removes most of the strain that running on pavement puts on your knees.

And it's a fun, fast-paced workout that helps you work hard instead of letting yourself easily throw in the towel.  

During your trial, we’ll provide you with a heart rate monitor to show you how hard you should be working and adjust your intensity to your skill level.  

Over time, we’ll use it to keep you accountable throughout the month, create challenges for you to make it fun, show you the effect cardio has on your resting heart rate, and measure your performance in the gym.  

(After your initial test trial, if you’d like to continue, you’ll want to buy your own heart rate monitor. We’ll have some you can buy here, at The Lab, behind the desk.)  

On the other hand, a few months into the program, you’ll be the one telling us how this style of training has put you in a better mood around your significant other, helped your energy levels stay up throughout your day, and, of course, helped you get that tone look that you crave.  

The best part - you start looking forward to working out.  

You start to find joy in pushing yourself through a 3-minute interval on the new treadmill we got for this class.  

And you get that feeling of accomplishment at the end of your workout when you see how many points you EARNED on the big screen.
